The 19th Annual Denny Leeson Urban Fishing Derby
For the 19th Year special needs children and adults in the Hamilton area will feel the amazing thrill of catching live trout - right in the heart of the city.
From Monday May 5th through Thursday May 8th, (9:00 to 4:30) special needs care groups and local schools will visit Inch Park Pool, which will be stocked with hundreds of live trout. Over 500 people are expected to participate in this popular and unique event. Groups will come at prescheduled times from organizations such as the Y.W.C.A - Cass, Stride, St. Peter's Hospital, Community Living Hamilton, Shalom Village, Hamilton Continuing Care, St. Joseph's villa and many more.
The Rotary Club of Hamilton Sunset is proud to work with Denny Leeson, organizing the event, paying for the fish, and providing attendees with a free lunch.
Denny Lesson started the Urban Fishing Derby so that special needs people could safely enjoy the thrill of catching a fish. He was inspired by his daughter Donna's experience; Donna has Downs Syndrome. Denny and his recruits, the members of the Dofasco Fishing Club, have worked tirelessly over the years, preparing the pool, fishing poles and bait and helping attendees get their catch. Not everyone is lucky enough to take home a fish - but that's what makes the experience true to life.
The fishing is open to the public from 4:30 - 5:30, Monday through Wednesday.
