Sand box
My husband Anthony built our little girl Lucy a sand box. It's huge. We could put a blanket in it and lay down and pretend we are on the beach, it's so big.
Lucy is thrilled and Anthony feels very proud! The challenge now, is to get her to come inside from time to time, good luck to us!!!

Happy Mother's Day
" All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother ". Abraham Lincoln
" God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers "
" Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, and call it a family. Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one "
Happy mother's day to all of you and to my mother Helen, as I said when my daughter was born 2 years ago I only hope to be 1/2 of the mother you are to me.

Barney
I took my little girl to see Barney yesterday, he is on tour right now celebrating 20 years. He is at MapleView mall again today.
The expression on Lucy's face when Barney came out was priceless. I will never forget it and it brought a tear to my eye. She was incredibly excited, imagine, being 2, and meeting this purple creature you wacth on TV, oh, it's great to be young.
She danced and sang and then asked if she could " kiss Barney ", when I told her ,she couldn't because he was busy working doing his show, she cried for 5 mins. Poor little girl, she bounced back and rounded the show off with more dancing and singing. What a great afternoon and she fell asleep 'one very happy little girl, holding her Barney plush toy.
Did he whisper " don't vote "???
Did you watch American Idol last night?
I could have sworn Jason Castro mouthed the words " don't vote ' during Ryan Seacrest's delivery of his # to vote.
Jason said in an intreview this week that he was ready to go home, so he may have said that last night. I am not going to judge him in wanting to leave BUT if he did mouth that last night, I think it was unprofessional and unfair to the other contestants who were voted off & who really want to be there and in his shoes. If he wants to leave, he should tell the producers and he should just go, instead of putting the viewers, judges and staff through the process with him, he is wasting all of their time and ours if he doesn't want to be there anymore.
Another great quote
" Talent alone cannot make a writer; there must be a 'man' behind the book ".Time out Mr.Skywalker!!!
My husband Anthony was watching StarWars last night and our little girl Lucy started to watch it. I was hesitant to let her watch as a light saber fight scene was happening and I told Anthony to turn it over. He waited a few minutes before turning it off and Lucy approached the TV and yelled at Anakin Skywalker and the jedi's and said " no hitting- TIME OUT ".
There you go, even jedi's can get timeouts; and, from 2 year olds!!! lol!
Afterwards she got her toy, hit me in the leg with it and yelled at the toy saying " no hitting mommy, time out ". It's hard not to laugh at times like that! In just a few minutes, she picked up a bit of violent behavior from TV and proved to my husband how important it is we are careful in what we let her watch on TV being so young.
Mighty Machines
There is a great kids show on TreeHouse called Mighty Machines. When I say 'great', yes, it's great for kids BUT interesting for adults too.
I cannot look away when the show is on. It features a machine every episode and follows it around describing what it does and how it works. Things you always wonder about but never really know. ie: they showed how the machines work underground in the salt mines and they took you right down into the deep earth. They show snow plows and farming machines, tree cutting, construction etc.
I miseed the one in the recylcling plant but I am curious to know how they sort everything etc. Guess we are all kids at heart and are always learning.
magazines
Funny how celebrity magazines report a story one week, then change the entire angle of the story the next week.
Ah, that's probobly the plan right. Hook us, then excite us with changes etc.
I only buy the $2.99 magazines, never do I buy the one's that are obviously 'made up' (I do not want to name names).
You take it all for what it is. Aside from magazines, I am reading a great book, it has taken me a year and 1/2 to read it, hey, I have a 2 year old, what do you expect, lol. It's Audery Hepburn's biography. She was very unique and had an interesting life and effect on Hollywood. It's been a great journey reading about her life, I am not done the book yet.
An opinion
American Idol is really getting boring. I think the final 5 contestants seem nice and some are talented but I find they are lacking 'pizzaz'.
David Cook has it, but the rest seem to just be coasting. I always liked David (17) but at this point he always sounds the same and performs the exact same way, he needs some 'spunk', although being so young, he probobly just needs some guidance.
I am a fan of Neil Diamond, who was last night's guest, but again, found the show boring other then Paula losing track of where she was in her comments, she thought Jason had sang 2 songs and was criticing him on his 2nd song when he had only sang one so far. Once they told her of her mistake it was impossible for her to 'make it right' she just kept making it worse so Simon cut her off (smart thinking on his part).
The 'Dove' story continues...
The doves are still in our yard. Mommy dove has layed her eggs.
Saturday we were in the backyard cutting the grass and Anthony tried to move the hanging plant basket where they are; to another location, the mother dove flew away so Anthony just left the basket where it was. I was devasted with guilt but the 'mommy dove' flew right back to her eggs minutes later. Now, she won't budge and that's fine with us.
We will leave her there to care for her eggs as long as she can put up with us making noise etc. in the yard. She has now covered the eggs up with sticks, I think, to hind them from what she thinks is her 'enemy Anthony'. We BBQ'd yesterday and ate right underneath her on our patio table and she seemed fine. 'Daddy dove' was close by flying in with more sticks.
Doves
We have two doves nesting in our hanging plant container in our yard. It's on our back patio.
We watched them from our kitchen as the 'daddy' dove flew sticks to 'mommy' dove who was waiting to secure it in the nest. Everytime he would fly over to her, her back feathers would flutter. Nature is amazing. We are not sure if we should let them continue nesting there as it's right over our patio table and we are always out there.
I will feel guilty not letting them have their babies there but we cannot, avoid our yard for the next while either. We'll see what happens. Either way, I am thrilled they chose our yard to build a home in.
BBQ recipes
Anyone have any interesting and tastey BBQ recipes?
I would like to 'up the anty' this summer and BBQ a few new meals instead of the basic meat and potatoes.
Maybe I will ask John Novak for some of his BBQ recipes, he seems to be the expert BBQ'er! He gave me some golf tips last year so I will hit him up for some more 'mentoring'.

Another great quote
" Life is a series of surprises. We do not guess today the mood, the pleasure, the power of tomorrow, when we are building up our being."Imagination
The other day my 2 year old put on some of my clothes, she has started to play dress up; but she caught me off guard when she walked up to me, 'dressed up' and put her hand out to shake mine and was talking jibberish and some english words.
It took me a minute to realize that she was ' role playing' and that my little Lucy has embarked on the method of using her imagination and was pretending to be 'someone' else and was meeting me. Once again I am in complete awe of my child and it brings me back to my childhood and the glorious days of 'pretending'.
Bit by a dog...stung by a bee
It certainly could be worse and I am not really complaining, it's more of an ironic observation but in the past 2 weeks my family has been bit by dogs and stung by a bee.
No worries both dogs have their shots and no-one was seriosuly hurt, as for the bee, I couldn't catch up to him to ask if he had his shots, lol!!!!
Fortunately, Lucy's dog bite came from a tiny chiwawa that my brother owns and it was just a tiny nip, although she was quite suprised and we are sure to keep her away from it.
Anthony's dog bite, well, that's a different story and it could have ended up a lot worse then it did. His place of employment owns a watch dog, this dog is a 'killer' and is trained to only be gentle with 2 employees at the shop. One of the employees that is familiar with the dog made a terrible mistake of bringing the dog over to Anthony and a few other co-workers on a leash. It lashed out and bit Anthony's arm. Needless to say, this employee feels very bad, SO HE SHOULD, he knows better!
I am pinching myself
Wow.
Reading a brief weather forecast today that JUST says " a few clouds and today's high " it's hard to believe just a month ago and too long before then our forecasts read like novels. They went on & on & on with freexing rain, turning to snow, cm's upon cm's of snow, high wind warnings, wind chills, minus' minus' minus' temperatures. Storms. Storms. Storms.
Now, just a few clouds in the sky. Done. WE"LL take it Mother Nature and thankyou. We deserve it, it's been a longggggggggg winter.

The park
It's great having a little one...for so many reasons. One of them being I get to hang out at the park with her all the time.
There are so many kid friendly things I get to do again, it's a blast. You are a parent but you are also reliving some of your childhood. Watching cartoons, although when I was a kid it was Lonney Toons and the Smurfs compared to The backyardigans and Dora. At least Sesame Street is still around, I learned a lot from that show, it was a big part of my childhood and hopefully will be for Lucy.
Having a reason to hit all the theme parks and attending birthday parties, who could ask for more!!!
A great entertainer
As a birthday present my husband Anthony took me to see Michael Buble in Buffalo last night.
I have liked Michael Buble since he released his 1st CD years ago. He grew on Anthony over the years and he is now a big fan.
I am a huge Sinatra fan and I am happy to see a great talent like Michael Buble keeping that style of music in 'this generation and hopefully of more to come. I remember meeting him years ago here at the station, he seemed very down to earth, hey, he's Canadian eh!!!
The concert was more then I had expected. Aside from his incredible voice and band, he has a great sense of humour. Humour is a characteristic I admire more then any other. He was witty and 'real' and connected to the audience through-out the entire show. What a band!!!!
Spring cleaning
What is it about spring that inspires you to clean and re-organize?
Possibly the feeling of new beginnings and the happy times ahead.
I feel like we spent the entire weekend cleaning but it feels GREAT! The biggest job was taking everything out of our garage and cleaning it. I cannot believe how much junk we have or should I now say " had".
Happy spring cleaning, if you feel so inclined!

My brother
After visitng my older brother Mike last week and his family, it was the first time I have seen similarities between us.
My brother and I have always been the 'brother and sister that you would say are "opposites" and you would never guess we are related.
I am not sure if it has come with age but I noticed many mannerisms that we share; this last visit, and many times I would be doing or saying something and I would stop myself and think " wow, I feel just like my brother right now ".
Maybe I was in denial (come-on when you are a kid, who wants to be like their older bullying brother ) or maybe as I said, with age, we have grown alike. All I can say is, if we are alike now, I am proud of that, he is a good guy, a good man and father and I have forgiven him for tieing me to coffee tables, for standing on my hair, scaring me at night and for all of the bumps and bruises. LOL!!!
The 'south'
My family and I took a road trip down south last week.
We spent most of our time outside of Atlanta Georgia visiting my brother and his family. It was nice to get away to a warmeer climate and the further south we drove, the more greener it got until we were actually seeing flowers along the road, it's a nice drive.
When we left home, our yard and front lawn was still half covered in snow, we left wearing our boots and hats/mittens and returned in sandals and to see the snow was all gone. What happpened this past week? The weather must have been warm. What a nice suprise to come home to the spring....FINALLY!!!!!!!
A great quote
" A sense of humour is part of the art of leadership, of getting along with people, of getting things done ".
Words to live by!!!!

Singing and Dancing
I rarely get a chance to watch American Idol with my wee one's bedtime etc.etc. We have watched it a few x's with Lucy and last night when we caught a bit of the beginning Lucy shouted " singing, dancing yahhhhhh ". She likes the show, well, the few minutes of it she sees as she is not one for sitting still too long.
I am NOT hoping this is a sign she wants to be an entertainer. NO thankyou. Mommy and Daddy are in the industry but I hope Lucy finds another career when she is older. I will support her in whatever she choses but I will not be pushing the entertainment industry that's for sure.
Mind over matter
This is a bit odd to write about on a blog, but I thought it was interesting and I am sure many of you can relate to it, somehow.
I am right handed and I cannot blow my nose if I hold the kleenex with my left hand. I am sure I could if I really tried, but my muscles almost freeze and I cannot do it. It's almost like trying to swallow a pill or medicine that tastes bad and your throat closes and it feels impossible to get your muscles to swallow it and you just hold it in your mouth, which doesn't make sense because you taste it longer BUT your body, somehow rejects it and takes over your mind and stops you from doing it.
Car wash
If you are looking for a good car wash, I highly recommend the Barton Street car wash here in Hamilton, it's just west of Ottawa St.
There are a few like this, but not many(not enough), where they clean the inside of your car as well as the outside. At least 3 people jump in your car with rags and cleaners and it is done quickly and efficiently. It's about $22.00 for the interior and exterior wash and it's well worth it.
After this wild winter our cars are filthy aren't they.

Poor 'wee buds
What a lovely Easter weekend. It could have been warmer but with the sun shining, it was refreshing. We walked everyday and on Saturday when we were delaying coming in the house and puttering around out front, I noticed a few of our daffodil buds poking through in the garden.
Don't get me wrong, I love flowers and gardening BUT my exctitement after seeing the buds was just a bit 'over the top'. It must be because of the dreadful winter we have had and my yearning for it to end. With the snow we had last night, I hope the buds haven't gone into shock and changed their minds. I will have-to check later.
Happy Easter!
Have a safe and Happy Easter weekend!
Don't forget to catch my weekend shows Sat. and Sunday from noon-6:00pm.

One day to go...
ONE day to go until spring.
It's hard to believe, I have never felt more anxious for spring then this year. I am sure you all feel the same way!
Here are a few things on my mind this morning......
- How will Canada's economy be affected by the financial trouble in the States. You can google this and read more about it. It's a domino effect and we may see a drop in our economy.
- American Idol....Simon was right. They should NOT have covered the Beatles songs again this week, only because it was such a hit last week and the contestants did such a great job, now, with last night not being very good, it ruined out lasting impression of the week before.
The countdown is on.......

Time out!!!
Our little girl Lucy (who is 2) did the funniest thing yesterday.
She was playing with her doll in the kitchen and then suudenly said " no touching dolly, do not touch it ", she was playing with tea towels etc. Then she picked her doll up and walked her into the living room saying " TIME OUT Dolly, time out " and sat her doll on the stairs for a few minutes; where we give her time outs.
WE couldn't help but laugh hysteriically BUT we're sure to hide our laughter from Lucy. It was the funniest and cutest thing to see. At least we know she undersatnds the concept of time outs already and knows where they take place, although, she has started giving them out herself. Sometimes I cannot believe she is just 2 years old. She is so clever and beyond!!!!!

Happy St.Patrick's Day.
For those of you who celebrate St.Patrick's day, I hope you have a good one.
The only festive thing I am doing is eating a delicious sugar cookie with St.Patty' colours, it's great mind you and is a celebration in itself. How do they keep these cookies so fresh? WOW.
Did you enjoy the sunshine this weekend, for a change....lol?
I felt reborn while driving in the car and actually feeling hot from the sun blaring through the windows, I had to take my coat off and I almost heard "halleluia" being chanted in my ears, lol!!!!
It's Monday. You know how Mondays are. Do we ever make sense on Mondays?

Easter Lily
I finally found an Easter lily at the grocery store yesterday.
It made my day, next to lilacs it is my favourite smell and coming in 3rd is a magnolia, which I will be smelling down in Georgia in a few weeks.
I cannot help but smell the lily every time I walk by it, hope I don't overdose on it, ha-ha. It is such a sweet smell. It's hard to believe next weekend is Easter. Usually Easter falls on or close to my birthday in April, it's very ealry this year!
Have a great weekend

A fun place for kids!
Have you been to or heard of the Woodbine centre at the Woodbine mall in Toronto.
If you have children it's a great place to go. The 2nd floor of the mall is an indoor theme park. They have a ferris wheel, merry go round, bumper cars, a train and other kiddie rides plus a huge play area. For those with a 'sweet tooth' they sell those fried mini doughnuts you can only get at a flea market and great home made ice cream waffles.
It's a great time, especially in the winter, but it is open all year round. Wow, sounds like they are paying me an endoresement, lol!

Fresh air in the house...
There is nothing like the fresh smell from an open window in your home.
Every chance I get, I open a few windows in the house and yesterday allowed for that. The air is cleaner and it really perks you up. I foget how much I love the spring and I cannot wait for the first few days when we can leave our windows open for an entire afternoon or evening and the best sleeping happens when you can leave your windows open all night and feel the warm spring breeze. 8 days to go(although it may not be that warm yet)!!!!!
My brother lives down south in Georgia, he has been there for about 10 years. When we visit, we find it strange that you never see many people out in the neighbourhood. Not many kids playing, people sitting on their porches, gardening, not too many anyway, not like here. I believe it's because we here in Ontario, appreciate the warm weather so much more then southeners because of our cold winters. We are outside at the first sign of a warm day and stay out as long as we can.

A nice person.
We are always in such a rush, especially in the morning.
For me, most mornings begin, very early. This morning I was making my way through the McDonlad's drive thru' and I was caught off guard by the young gentleman working the overnight/early morning shift. After handing me my change and breakfast, he began to take part in conversation with me. I am not talking about simple pleasantries, but as cold as it was he actually stuck his head out of the drive thru window, leaned his head against the window frame, hands in pocket and began telling me a story of how he doesn't like working the late shift and telling me a story about him and his girlfriend etc.etc.

'She's' amazing.
I am sure any of you who are parents feel the same way, that you are amazed at your own child.
My little girl is 2 now, and is becoming this incredibly interesting and fascinating human being. I cannot help but stare at her. I am in complete 'awe' and am waiting to see what she's going to do next. So many things she does, of-course, she has learned from us BUT it amazes me to see her present actions and even form sentences that I do not think we had any part of. She is an incredible little 'person' now, full of life and energy. She is an amazing character. I have never been more impressed by one's soul, then hers.

Snow, clocks ahead and March break begins...
What a busy weekend. The good news is our clocks go ahead on Sunday, although we will lose one hour of sleep we gain daylight and it will make spring feel closer. SNOW.....wow...is it ever going to end. I don't remember snow like this since when I was a kid, and I was a kid then, so it was fun, now, as an adult, it's a nightmare.
Drive safely if you have-to this Saturday, here's to 'happy shovelling' and to those on March break, hope you have a fun one!

RadioThon 2008 follow up...
Thankyou to all of you who helped with RadioThon 2008. We raised $304,000.000.
I am sure many of you feel the same way as I do, the stories and families are on my mind and I will never forget what I heard and what I learned. The experinece puts your life in perspective. It's strange how it takes an experinece like RadioThon to remind us to appreciate 'any good things we are lucky to have in our own lives. If only we could live that way everyday and not need to be reminded from time to time. I will certainly try.
I couldn't help but want to run home to my little girl after my shifts. I held her very tight each day when I got home. She loves her Koala Bear Patches, the 'official' stuffed animal of RadioThon 2008. Patches made it's way to many sick kids at the hospital. We picked ours up in the store.

Yes, it's cold...
My best friend from Vancouver is visiting. Although she lives in Canada, their weather is not as cold as ours here in Ontario.
She told me when I picked her up from Pearson airport that when she walked outside for the first time she gasped and felt as though someone had thrown a bucket of freezing cold water in her face.
She grew up here but it's funny how soon you forget the bitter cold weather when you move away.
Only a month and a half to go folks and we will be seeing the flowers bloom and will be able to go outside without running for cover from place to place.
I cannot wait, how about you?
The Oscars
Did you watch the Oscars?
I watched most of the show. I had to put the little 'one down to bed and missed almost an hour of the show but I don't think I missed much.
It was rthe " same old...same old". Pretty dresses, blah-blah-blah. John Stewart was charming. I do not enjoy them that much anymore. Not sure why? I find it all very pretentious.
Hooray for Hollywood! They are a planet away from all of us aren't they.
I know, I lived there for 2 years, hence, my return home. It just wasn't 'for me'.

American Idol is great this year
Have you been watching American Idol?
Great talent this year, the best I have seen on the show. A lot of young contestants but they have mature voices and incredible stage presence.
I haven't narrowed down a favourite yet, there are many good ones. I have a few fav's.
Thoughts?
lunear eclipse
Did you see the lunear eclipse last night?
It was amazing.
Our little girl was asleep but I figure she will be able to stay awake past 8:30pm, the next time it happens.
hello
have a great day.A wonderful place to go!
Have you ever been to the Butterfly Conservatory in Niagara?
If not, I HIGHLY recommend it. I have heard great things about it and we finally took our 2 year old there. She loved it and so did mommy and daddy. To a child, it's thrilling and 'over the top' fun and to an adult, it has a calming effect and is very peaceful.
Also, it's nice to be in such a warm place in the middle of winter. We even worked up a sweat.
That's another great thing about being a parent, not only do you enjoy new things for yourself, but seeing them trhough your child's eyes, gives everything a whole new meaning.

You can catch my show Sat. and Sundays from noon-6:00pm and weekdays midnight-5:30am.
I changed my hours after returning from mat' leave a year ago so I can manage a radio career and be home for my little girl while she is still so young, it's a great sacrfice but it has also put me in a place to learm new skills I never had a chance to before ie: being a jock and producer.
Talk with you soon!
